DIPD is a project which reinforces the capacity of rural communities to effectively manage disability challenges: A multilevel approach with a significant impact on children and adults with disabilities’ wellbeing and promote inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life- create equal opportunities and access to education, training, employment, health and other aspects of life.

The DIPD mission statement is to ‘promote an environment that adequately cares for, supports and protects people with disabilities1 physically, psychologically, materially, socially, morally, spiritually and legally to grow and develop to their full potential’.

The DIPD Project framework has been oriented towards Chimteka Villages, Mchinji District with a covering of 115 villages in and around chimteka villages; will serve as a pilot centre, with learning incorporated to adapt the framework for scaling up throughout Malawi where there is a need for a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to disability. In fact, DIPD is expanding in Mchaisi, Mchinji District where there is another big need to address the challenges of people with disabilities and this is thanks to Exagris Africa for having a ‘rehabilitation technician’ full time in the field, next to the part-time volunteers of DIPD.
